Under Three Dental Visit

Under Three and your first visit is free! Children’s Dental Center and Big People, Too! has provided specialty dental care to children for over 50 years.  The current recommendation from the AAPD, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry is that all children should visit the dentist by age one. Most dental practices are simply not equipped to handle such young patients. But we can.

At Children’s Dental Center and big People, Too! the under three years of age dental visit is designed to educate all parents and patient about the causes of tooth decay, the consequences of tooth decay in the baby teeth, understanding good nutrition choices and what is the current state of the art in prevention today.

Unfortunately early childhood caries is increasing in California. Presently tooth decay in school age children is 5 times more common than asthma. Understanding the concepts of tooth decay can help stop a child from developing tooth decay. The causes of decay are the bacteria present in the mouth, that will adhere to the teeth, and the foods and liquids we drink will cause the bacteria to produce acids that can damage the teeth, causing a cavity.

Preventing cavities requires knowledge of the nutritional content of the food and drinks given to child. Drinking milk or juices with meals, and water in between meals.  Brush teeth after meals, and snacks, wipe teeth with Xylitol or Fluoride after brushing.  Visit the dentist twice a year for any needed x-rays, dental cleanings and an exam.

If you would like to see one of our staff dentists we can arrange that too, just call us and we will be happy to help you. Most insurance companies now have a billing code for the under three dental exams, so you may have coverage for this early dental visit.
